Fouls and officiating
Team fouls, the bonus and all foul types are free. Baseline Pro adds rosters. With a roster, FOUL asks which player committed it, the app counts each player's fouls, and it tracks who played in each quarter.
The app records the fouls the referee signals. It doesn't award free throws.
Team fouls and the bonus
Tap FOUL under a team to book a team foul. The pips above it fill in. When the team reaches the bonus, its pips turn red and a tag appears:
- Bonus: the other team shoots two
- Bonus 1+1: the other team shoots a one-and-one
- Bonus 2: the second tier, two shots
The count resets on the preset's schedule: per period, per half, or carried into overtime. Pro style also puts a team in the bonus on its second foul in the last two minutes of a period. The rules and presets guide lists each preset's rule.
UNDO removes a foul booked by mistake.
Foul types
Tapping FOUL books a personal foul. To choose another type, hold FOUL:
- Personal (P)
- Technical (T)
- Unsportsmanlike (U)
- Disqualifying (D)
- Coach technical
- Bench technical
P, T, U and D count towards the team's fouls. Coach and bench technicals don't; the app counts them separately. A head coach is disqualified by two coach technicals, one coach technical and two bench technicals, or three bench technicals. The board then shows Home coach is disqualified.
Foul types are free, with or without a roster.
Player fouls
In the Teams column on the setup screen, tap Edit on a team's Roster row. Each player needs a number, a name, or both; rows with neither are dropped. You can add a roster for one team only. The other team's FOUL keeps booking team fouls.
The underage grades limit the roster to 15 players at U11 to U13 and 12 at U14. Player fouls out at in the Rules column sets the personal limit: five under FIBA, six under Pro style. It only applies to a team with a roster.
The picker
With a roster, tapping FOUL opens a list of that team's players, each with their foul count:
- Tap a player to book a personal foul against them
- Hold a player to choose the foul type, or to correct their count on a keypad
- Team, Nobody in particular, books a team foul against no player
The player foul and the team foul are one event, so the counts always match and one UNDO reverses both.
Fouling out
A player is out when they reach the personal limit, or earlier under FIBA rules for:
- a disqualifying foul
- a second technical
- a second unsportsmanlike foul
- a technical and an unsportsmanlike foul
When a foul puts a player out, the board shows it under the clock for five seconds, with the reason when it isn't the limit, for example #7 Byrne is out: 2nd technical. The picker marks that player Out.
The app works this out from the recorded fouls each time. If you undo a foul or correct a count, a player wrongly marked out is back in at once.
Equal play
Basketball Ireland's underage regulations set how many quarters each player must play. The app can track this.
You need:
- The FIBA Underage preset. The grade sets the limits.
- Equal play switched on. It's on by default, under the grade picker.
- A roster for each team you're tracking. This needs Baseline Pro.
Before the tip-off and at the start of each later regulation quarter, the app asks who is on? for each team with a roster. Tap five players. Each shows how many quarters they've played, and two tags help:
- Must play now: they need every remaining quarter to reach the minimum
- Max reached: they've played the most quarters the grade allows
Later puts the question off, and SUB on the board brings it back. Once the five are set, SUB records a substitution: who comes off, then who comes on.
Playing all of a quarter counts as a full quarter. Coming on or off during it counts as a partial quarter. The minimum counts full quarters only; the maximum counts every quarter played. Overtime isn't counted, because any five can play it. U14 has no minimum, so Must play now never appears.
SUB only appears for a team with a roster, and only when equal play is on.
After the game
The summary lists everything the board tracked. The after the game guide covers sharing and history.
- Player fouls: every player on each roster. It shows a count when all fouls were personal, and the letters otherwise, for example P P T. Disqualified players are marked OUT, with the reason below.
- Coach and bench technicals, Coach disqualified, and any excessive timeouts, on one line per team.
- Quarters played: with equal play on, a grid of each player's quarters marked Full, Part or Bench.
The CSV (Baseline Pro) lists every action by period, with fouls named by player and type, then each player's letters and any disqualification reason. It's always in English, whatever language the device uses.
The Game record (Baseline Pro) is an A4 PDF laid out like a FIBA scoresheet. It has the running score, a foul box per player with their letters, team fouls per period, timeouts per half, the equal-play grid if there is one, and signature lines. You can add a competition and a venue, and they're remembered for the next game between the same two teams. The PDF states that it's a record of what the table tracked, not an official scoresheet. Check with your competition whether it accepts it.
