Multi-team games
A multi-team game puts two to six teams on one board. Each team has its own score, bib colour and buttons. Open it from Training → Multi-team game.
Built-in set-ups
Four games come with the app. Pick one under Set-ups and change anything before you start.
| Set-up | Format | Teams | Scoring | Ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3x3x3 (10 min) | All play | 3 | +1 inside the arc, +2 outside | A ten minute clock |
| King of the court | Rotation | 3 | +1 only | First to 3 wins a round, first to 5 rounds wins |
| Cutthroat to 21 | All play | 3 | +1, +2, +3 | First to 21 |
| Four-team shooting (5 min) | All play | 4 | +1 only | A five minute clock |
All play or rotation
All play puts every team on court at once, and any team can score at any time. Use it for 3x3x3, or for groups shooting against a clock.
Rotation puts two teams on court and queues the rest. The winner of a round stays on and the loser goes to the back of the queue, as in king of the court. The queue follows the order of the team list, and the first two start on court. Drag a team by its handle to reorder it.
Two switches change who plays in rotation:
- Loser stays sends the winner off instead. Use it for defensive drills.
- Swap on any score ends the round on a single basket.
Teams and scoring
Each team has a name, a bib colour and a score it Starts on. The colours are red, blue, yellow, green, white, black, orange and purple. The starting score can be negative, to give a team a handicap.
The scoring option sets the buttons on every tile:
- Standard: +1, +2, +3
- 3x3 rules: +1 inside the arc, +2 outside
- Ones: +1 only
- Streets: +1 in, +2 out, no free throws
- Custom: up to five buttons of your own, including minus values
A custom button has a short label and a value from −10 to +10, for example a point for a stop or a deduction for a turnover. Floor at zero stops a score going below zero. Free throws adds a +1 FT button when the scoring has no +1.
Clocks
The game clock can Count down, Count up or be turned off with No clock. Set the Period length and the number of Periods. With Stops on whistle, the clock stops when a round ends until you start it again. Running keeps it going.
There are two other clocks:
- Shot clock: tap it to reset. At zero it waits for you. It never ends anything on its own.
- Round clock, in rotation: when it runs out, the team ahead wins the round. If the score is level, the board asks Who took the round? and you pick.
Tap the main clock to start or stop all the game's clocks together. Warning buzzer adds a horn shortly before the end of a period.
How a game ends
A game needs at least one automatic ending. In all play, that's a clock or a Score target. In rotation, it's a clock or Rounds to win. The set-up won't start without one and tells you so.
With both a clock and a target in all play, Ends on decides which counts:
- First of clock or target: whichever comes first.
- Both: play on after time until the target. If time runs out first, the board shows Time is up · play to the target.
- Clock only; the target is a marker: the target is shown but doesn't end the game.
Win by makes the target a minimum. With Win by 2, play continues until a team leads by two. Overtime settles a tie when the clock runs out. Sudden death stops the clock and the next score wins. Fixed plays an extra period of the Overtime length.
To finish early, hold END GAME. It needs a hold so a stray tap can't end the game. Once a game has started, you can't leave the board until it's ended.
Running the board
Each team is a tile with its score and buttons. The tiles resize to fit the number of teams. In rotation, the two teams on court are marked and the rest are listed under Next up.
- UNDO steps back through scores and round results. Undoing the basket that ended a round reopens it, and the score, queue and clocks go back to how they were.
- END ROUND, in rotation, ends the round manually and asks who won it. The team ahead is suggested.
- NEXT PERIOD moves to the next period early, when there's more than one.
- Hold a tile to rename the team, change its colour, or type its score on a keypad.
After the game
The final standings show the winner and how the game ended, with the time played and a timeline of every score. Play again starts the same game with the scores reset, and in rotation the winner goes first in the queue. Change settings goes back to the set-up. Share sends the standings as plain text.
Multi-team games aren't saved to History. Share the result if you want a record.
Saving a set-up
The set-up screen opens on the last game you started, even after the app has been closed. To keep more than one, use Save this set-up and give it a name, such as "Tuesday 3v3v3". It's added to the list under Set-ups. You can delete saved set-ups but not the built-in ones.
